kalemny shokran

this is about an egyptian movie that depicts the sad truth of the state of the egyptians today.

The Egyptians are very familiar with the words "kalemny Shokran" or call me please.
it is a text message you can send for some one to call you when you are out of minutes.

Most of our population are below the poverty line

This movie is about them
Many will complain from the verbal vulgarity of the script.
Others will find most of the scenes are sexual and too much for the conservative viewer.

Cinema was meant to depict the truth, to document the state of things as they happen.
The truth is shocking for our society in the bubble, we see nothing but our driver and maids as they twirl to get the job done.
We complain about their lack of smiles and their frustration, see the movie know where your help come from.

It is like slum dog millionaire, we have become like the slums of india. the only difference is that our people are obsessed with the cell phone.

All their money goes in paying for a phone, it is the one thing they really care about.
Watching the satellite channels is the other thing that gives them joy. Soccer too is the other drug for them.

Khaled Youssef manages to make you laugh through the misery of all the events.
One thing the Egyptians will not lose is their sense of humor.

An obsession with the sexual spreads in the slums, and things got mixed up, borders are crossed.

Watching this movie is coming face to face with the truth beyond the four seasons and the compounds we live in.

we are a very small percentage of our society and we know nothing about the struggling people who dream of nothing but a phone like yours and watching the cool channels that you watch.

sex and drugs are what keeps them going, sounds like the seventies or that they are rock and roll artists, but it gives them a sense of humor not found in the middle east or west.

inside the slums it is not as conservative as you might think, it is a wild world where everything mixes and even children smoke up.

Our beloved Shweikar is back with an amazing performance, we really missed her, and she returned with more charm than anytime before. One thing is for sure this cast can act.

The truth is bitter but until when will we go to see jennifer aniston's new movie and ignore the local masterpieces.
Talent exists and please pop your bubble and see what the locals have to offer, you will be shocked to know we have talent.
There is nothing shocking we always did.

The government refuses to let go of it's stupid ways and you will see what I mean when you see this movie. I think Khaled youssef is more in touch with what the people can watch than his late teacher Youssef Chahine. His movies are easier to understand than those of his mentor Youssef Chahine.

People come out of the movie saying. so what is this movie trying to say? what is the message? the truth is cinema does not have to offer answers and solutions, it is not the answer to the problem, however it does highlight the current state of things. A good movie makes you see things you did not know existed. I hope the high officials see this movie, it is directed for them to see the mess they left ignored.

Maybe one day a movie like this inspires a high government official to help the struggling masses.

Egypt; you lack so much but one thing is for sure; in you is a treasure of good art and artists.
